Senegalese music legend Youssou N’Dour brought a musical highlight to Goalkeepers Dakar 2026 with a live performance on October 29, 2026, as global leaders, changemakers and young people gathered in Senegal to discuss how artificial intelligence could help create a more equitable future.
The event focused on the opportunities and challenges of using artificial intelligence to expand opportunities for African communities and support progress across the continent. Alongside discussions on technology, development and inclusion, the programme also featured music, giving attendees an opportunity to celebrate Senegalese culture.

One of the standout moments came when N’Dour took to the stage. His performance brought members of the audience to their feet, adding a musical dimension to an event largely centred on conversations about technology and the future of young people.
N’Dour is widely recognised for his contribution to Senegalese music and for helping develop mbalax, a popular music style rooted in Senegalese traditions. The genre combines Wolof traditional rhythms, instruments and vocal forms with influences from Cuban and other Latin American popular music. His work has played an important role in bringing Senegalese musical sounds to international audiences.
Beyond his music career, N’Dour has also been involved in public service. He served as Senegal’s Minister of Culture and Tourism, adding a political dimension to a career that has extended beyond the recording studio and concert stage.
His appearance at Goalkeepers Dakar 2026 brought one of Senegal’s most recognised cultural figures into an international gathering focused on the continent’s future. While the discussions examined how technology could influence opportunities for the next generation, his performance offered a reminder of the country’s cultural contribution to the global stage.
