A South Carolina mother has been charged with murder in connection with the death of her 10-month-old child after investigators said laboratory testing found a high level of morphine in the infant’s blood.
Tynisha Lashae Jones, 34, was charged with murder/homicide by child abuse on Friday, September 25, 2026, according to the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office. She remains at the Anderson County Detention Center after bond was denied.
The investigation began on December 12, 2025, when detectives were called to AnMed Medical Center following the death of an infant. Investigators interviewed Jones and later obtained a search warrant for the family’s home as they worked to determine what had caused the child’s death.
According to authorities, laboratory results returned several months into the investigation and showed that the infant had a high dose of morphine in their blood. The death was subsequently classified as a homicide.
Investigators then reviewed the available evidence and medical records as they continued examining the circumstances surrounding the child’s death. Authorities said their investigation led them to determine that Jones was responsible for giving morphine to her child.
The case remained under investigation, and authorities had not released further details about how the morphine was administered or what circumstances led to the infant’s exposure to the drug.
Jones’s arrest follows months of investigation between the child’s death and the filing of charges. The sheriff’s office has not indicated whether additional charges are expected.
As the case moves forward, the allegations against Jones remain matters for the court to determine.
