Pink has clarified her position on Israel and Palestine after facing criticism over a social media repost that was interpreted as support for removing rapper Macklemore from Ed Sheeran’s tour because of his public support for Palestinians.
The singer addressed the controversy in a lengthy Instagram statement, saying the reposted material contained language that did not fully reflect her own views. Pink said some of the words were not hers and were not expressions she would have chosen herself, prompting her to explain her position after seeing people online draw conclusions about her beliefs.
Pink said her position has remained consistent since October 2023. She condemned Hamas as a terrorist organization while also arguing that Palestinians deserve a future in which their humanity and aspirations are respected.
The singer also made clear that she does not claim to represent Israel or its government. Her comments instead focused on what she described as the distinction between disagreeing with the actions of an Israeli government and opposing hostility or fear directed at Jewish people.
She said she had not intended to turn a complicated conflict into a debate on Instagram, but the reaction to the repost led her to address what she saw as assumptions about her views. Pink described seeing increasingly hostile comments directed at her, including references to Zionism and the phrase “from the river to the sea.”
She argued that some of the criticism came from people who had formed an opinion about her position before she had publicly explained it. Pink said she did not believe most of her critics were motivated by hatred of Jewish people, but felt that a narrative had developed around her that placed words and beliefs in her mouth.
Her central concern, she explained, was the safety of Jewish people who may feel threatened or targeted, rather than unconditional support for decisions made by the Israeli government.
Pink stressed that the two positions should not be treated as mutually exclusive. A person, she argued, can oppose actions taken by Israel’s government while still rejecting hostility toward Jewish people and wanting Jewish families to feel safe in public spaces.
Her statement came after criticism of an earlier repost concerning Macklemore, whose outspoken support for Palestinians has generated controversy in the music industry. The repost was interpreted by some as backing calls for the rapper to be removed from Ed Sheeran’s tour.
Pink’s clarification sought to distance her personal views from every statement contained in the material she had shared. At the same time, she reaffirmed her opposition to Hamas, her support for Palestinian aspirations and her concern about what she described as rising hostility toward Jewish people.
The singer also referenced the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks and spoke about how she intended to observe the beginning of Rosh Hashanah, adding a personal dimension to a statement that was largely focused on explaining her position amid the backlash.
Rather than retracting her earlier position entirely, Pink used the statement to draw a clearer line between the material she reposted and the views she personally holds. Her remarks reflect the increasingly difficult space public figures face when speaking about Israel and Palestine, where statements, reposts and even individual phrases can quickly become interpreted as endorsements of a broader political position.
