Kodak Black has been cleared of charges alleging that he fled from and resisted police during a traffic stop after a Broward County judge dismissed the case against the Florida rapper.
The judge granted Kodak Black’s motion to dismiss on Tuesday, September 8, ruling that prosecutors had not presented evidence showing that he attempted to elude police officers. The decision dismissed all charges related to the incident and brought the case to an end.
Kodak Black’s attorney, Bradford Cohen, said the defence had challenged the allegations using video footage from the incident and testimony provided during a deputy’s deposition. Cohen welcomed the court’s decision, arguing that the evidence showed the case did not support a fleeing allegation.
The case dates back to an incident in February that later resulted in an arrest warrant. According to the warrant, authorities alleged that Kodak Black knew he had been ordered to stop by deputies but continued driving away from them.
The rapper surrendered to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office in May after the warrant was issued. At the time, Cohen strongly criticised the case and argued that Kodak Black had been repeatedly subjected to what he described as unfounded allegations and arrests.
Cohen had also accused law enforcement of targeting the rapper, saying that authorities had repeatedly pursued cases against his client after lengthy investigations. The attorney’s comments reflected a broader dispute between the defence and prosecutors over the circumstances surrounding Kodak Black’s arrests.
The dismissal of the Broward County case does not resolve all of Kodak Black’s legal problems in Florida. Cohen is also seeking the dismissal of separate drug charges in Orlando.
Those charges stem from another arrest in which police alleged that Kodak Black was found with 25 grams of MDMA, a synthetic substance known for both stimulant and psychedelic effects. That case remains separate from the Broward County fleeing and resisting arrest allegations that have now been dismissed.
For Kodak Black, the latest ruling removes one criminal case from his immediate legal burden, after his defence successfully challenged the evidence behind the allegation that he had attempted to evade police.
