Diesel prices in Finland reached their highest level in more than four years in October 2026, with the average price climbing to EUR 2.49 per litre, according to figures released by Statistics Finland on Friday.
The October average was five cents higher than the previous peak recorded in June 2022, when diesel prices rose sharply amid disruptions in global energy markets. The latest figures underline the growing cost of fuel for motorists, transport operators and businesses that depend on diesel.

Compared with October 2025, when a litre of diesel cost an average of EUR 1.67, the price has increased by almost 50 percent in just 12 months.
Kristiina Nieminen, Senior Statistician at Statistics Finland, said oil was continuing to reach international markets despite the ongoing war situation. However, uncertainty surrounding transportation was still affecting supply and contributing to higher prices for consumers.
“It seems that oil is making it to the market despite the war situation, but the uncertainty related to transport is still reflected in supply and, as a result, is pushing up consumer prices,” Nieminen said in a press release issued by the agency.
The increase was not limited to diesel. Petrol prices also recorded significant annual rises in October, adding to the cost of driving across Finland.
The average price of 98-octane petrol reached EUR 2.38 per litre, while 95-octane petrol averaged EUR 2.28 per litre.
Statistics Finland reported that the average price of 95-octane petrol was 33.3 percent higher than in October 2025. The annual increase for 98-octane petrol stood at 31.5 percent.
The figures show that motorists in Finland are facing substantially higher fuel costs than they were a year ago, with diesel experiencing the sharpest increase among the three commonly monitored fuel types.
With diesel averaging EUR 2.49 per litre, October marked a new four-year high for the fuel, reflecting the continued effect of uncertainty in international oil transportation and supply on prices at Finnish filling stations.
