The adidas x waf. Superstar ADV brings Lagos skate culture to the global sneaker market, marking a new milestone for African skateboarding with its worldwide release on October 12, 2026. The collaboration between adidas and Nigerian skate community waf. (Wafflesncream) marks the first time an African skate community has helped shape the iconic Superstar silhouette since its debut in 1970.

Founded in 2012 by Jomi Marcus-Bello, Nifemi Marcus-Bello and KC Obijiaku, waf. has spent 14 years building a skateboarding community in Lagos through retail, fashion, music and community programmes. What began as an effort to create space for skate culture in Nigeria has grown into a wider platform for young creatives and skateboarders, helping bring greater visibility to a scene that has developed largely through local initiative.

A major milestone came in 2024 with the opening of a skatepark at Freedom Park in Lagos. The park occupies the site of a former colonial prison, giving the project a setting that connects the city’s history with a contemporary space for recreation and creative expression.

That connection between place and culture is reflected in the adidas x waf. Superstar ADV. The sneaker features a dusty grey upper inspired by Lagos Island, while its breathable side panels are designed with the city’s warm climate in mind. A translucent pink outsole draws inspiration from the Lagos horizon at different times of the day, adding a visual detail rooted in the city’s changing light.

Rather than treating the collaboration as a simple colour update to a familiar sneaker, the design incorporates elements associated with the environment in which waf. has built its skateboarding community. The partnership also places a Nigerian skate organisation at the centre of a global product release, bringing a Lagos-based creative scene into a conversation that has often been led by more established skateboarding markets.

Waf. has played a role in developing skate culture in Nigeria beyond the retail space. In 2017, the organisation launched the country’s first Go Skate Day, which has since grown into one of Nigeria’s largest annual skate festivals. Its work across community programming, fashion and music has helped establish it as a hub for skateboarding and youth culture in West Africa.

The Superstar ADV release begins at the waf. flagship store in Lagos at 9:00 a.m. West Africa Time on October 12, followed by availability through adidas retail stores and e-commerce platforms worldwide. The sneaker has a listed retail price of $110.

For waf., the release represents a new level of international visibility after more than a decade of developing skate culture at home. For adidas, it brings a locally rooted African creative community into the story of one of its most recognisable sneaker designs, linking the Superstar’s long history with the people and place shaping its latest interpretation.
