Brooks Nader says her father barely noticed when she removed her bikini top during a family yacht trip in Sardinia, Italy, last month.
The 29-year-old Sports Illustrated model and Baywatch actress discussed the incident with Entertainment Tonight on Thursday, September 10, explaining that her father, Breux Nader, did not appear particularly concerned about her decision to go topless while the family was enjoying time together on the yacht.
“He didn’t even notice,” Nader said of her father. She added that when he became aware of the situation, his reaction was essentially that he did not care. According to Nader, her father has “selective hearing and selective seeing.”
Nader also offered some context for why she did not consider the moment particularly unusual. Although she acknowledged that she is not European, she said she grew up in Louisiana in an all-girl household where nudity among the sisters was not treated as unusual.
“I don’t care if I’m not from Europe. I’m from Louisiana,” she explained, adding that she and her sisters had grown up being comfortable around one another.
The incident occurred during a family holiday in Sardinia, where Nader travelled with her father, her mother, Holland Nader, and her 24-year-old sister, Sarah Jane Nader. What appeared to be a private family moment later attracted attention after portions of the trip were documented.
Nader said she was simply enjoying herself and was not thinking about whether people were recording what was happening around her. She described the vacation as an especially enjoyable experience and said she had “the time of my freaking life.”
The model’s comments came as she reflected on the family getaway rather than as an attempt to make the moment into a larger statement. Her explanation centred on the relaxed atmosphere of the trip and the way she and her family have traditionally viewed personal boundaries around one another.
“I was just having the time of my life and really not thinking that anyone was documenting some of it,” Nader said. She added that, despite the attention surrounding the footage, her family was happy with the memories from the trip.
The episode has since become one of the more talked-about moments from the Sardinia holiday, largely because of the unusual family setting. For Nader, however, it appears to have been far less complicated than the public reaction suggested.
