FBI arrests of rappers NBA Ben10 and OG3 Three were among six made by federal authorities on September 10 in connection with an April shooting at a Houston restaurant, bringing renewed attention to a case that has already resulted in criminal charges against another rapper.
FBI Houston spokesperson Connor Hagen said the six suspects were taken into custody by the FBI and partner law enforcement agencies during operations in Texas and Louisiana. Authorities have linked the arrests to a shooting at Confessions restaurant in Houston earlier this year, although the specific allegations against each of the newly arrested suspects have not yet been made public.
NBA Ben10 was himself injured in the April incident. Court documents state that he suffered “irreversible paralysis” as a result of the shooting.
The case had previously focused on rapper Allstar JR, who authorities accuse of shooting NBA Ben10 during a confrontation inside the restaurant. According to information cited in the case, surveillance footage showed Allstar JR involved in a fight with several people who appeared to be trying to rob him.
Investigators allege that a firearm fell to the ground during the confrontation. Allstar JR then reportedly picked up the weapon and opened fire, striking three people, including NBA Ben10.
The allegations against Allstar JR do not end with those initial shots. Authorities say he later moved toward NBA Ben10, who had fallen to the ground, and fired three more rounds at him. Investigators also allege that he attempted to shoot Ben10 in the head but was unable to do so because the firearm had run out of ammunition.
The latest arrests widen the scope of the investigation, but federal authorities have not yet released the charges facing NBA Ben10, OG3 Three or the four other people arrested on September 10. Their alleged roles in the case therefore remain unclear from the information currently available.
Hagen directed questions about the charges to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas. Until prosecutors release further details, the arrests alone do not establish what each suspect is accused of doing or whether the allegations will ultimately lead to convictions.
The case now moves into another stage as federal prosecutors determine how to proceed against the six people taken into custody. For NBA Ben10, the development also adds another dimension to a case in which he was previously identified as one of the people seriously injured in the shooting.
