Zahara Jolie has officially removed Pitt from her legal surname after a Los Angeles judge approved her petition to change her name, making the 21-year-old the latest of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s children to distance her legal identity from her father’s surname.
According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE and other outlets, the name change from Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt to Zahara Marley Jolie was approved on September 28, 2026. No objections were filed against the petition.
Zahara had asked the court earlier this year to remove Pitt from her surname. The change formalizes a name she had already been using publicly. She appeared as Zahara Marley Jolie at her graduation from Spelman College in May, months before the court granted her request.
The decision makes Zahara the third of Pitt and Jolie’s six children to legally drop their father’s surname. Her siblings Shiloh and Maddox have previously done so. Vivienne has also petitioned the court to change her name to Vivienne Marcheline Jolie, with a hearing scheduled for November 2.
Zahara was adopted by Jolie in 2005 from Ethiopia and later became part of the family Jolie built with Pitt. She is one of six children the former couple share: Maddox, 25, Pax, 22, Zahara, 21, Shiloh, 20, and twins Vivienne and Knox, who are 18.
The latest legal change comes nearly two years after Pitt and Jolie’s divorce was finalized in December 2024, ending a lengthy legal dispute that followed their separation.
The couple met while filming the 2005 film “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” and began dating that year. They married in 2014 after several years together and separated in 2016.
For Zahara, the court’s approval gives legal status to a name she had already begun using publicly. She will now officially be known as Zahara Marley Jolie.
