Super Falcons Set Up 2028 Olympic Qualifiers Against Morocco After 7-0 Aggregate Win

The Nigerian women’s national team confirmed their progression with a 5-0 victory in the second leg of their second-round tie at Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State, on Tuesday. The result followed their 2-0 win in the first leg, giving Nigeria a commanding aggregate advantage across the two matches.

Uchenna Kanu and Toni Payne each scored twice in the second-leg encounter, while Christy Ucheibe converted a penalty as the Super Falcons completed a five-goal victory on home soil. Their performance secured passage to the next round and kept their Olympic qualification campaign on course.

Nigeria will now face Morocco in the third round, with the two-legged fixtures scheduled for early 2027. Morocco reached this stage after Congo-Brazzaville withdrew from the competition, allowing the North African side to advance by walkover.

The upcoming tie brings together two teams with recent history in major African women’s football competitions. Nigeria and Morocco last met in a high-stakes contest in the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). Playing on home soil, Morocco took a two-goal lead, but the Super Falcons fought back to win 3-2 and secure their record 10th continental title.

That result will add context to the next meeting, although the Olympic qualifiers present a different challenge for both sides. Nigeria must navigate the two-legged tie against Morocco to move closer to securing a place at the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

For the Super Falcons, the victory over Comoros provides a strong start to the next stage of their campaign. Their focus now shifts to Morocco and the opportunity to take another step towards returning to the Olympic football tournament.
