Across the region, several accommodation projects are preparing to welcome guests for the coming winter season. Some are designed around Northern Lights viewing, while others focus on privacy, wellness, fine dining and direct access to Lapland’s snowy landscapes. The openings span Rovaniemi, Muonio, Raattama, Lake Miekojärvi and Enontekiö, offering different ways to experience the Finnish Arctic.

Rovaniemi remains a major base for winter visitors, combining access to Arctic nature with attractions such as Santa Claus Village. The city is also gaining another hotel as Santa’s Hotels prepares to open Santa’s Hotel Noelle in the city centre. The property will have 101 rooms, including junior suites with balconies, as well as a souvenir shop. A covered pedestrian bridge will connect it to the group’s existing Santa’s Hotel Santa Claus, creating a link between the two properties.

For travellers who want to watch the winter sky from their accommodation, Halo Riverside Resort is preparing to introduce 39 glass igloos on the banks of the Vikakongas river near Rovaniemi. Scheduled to open in mid-October 2026, the resort will offer River View and Forest View igloos, each accommodating up to four people. The units will feature heated panoramic glass roofs, private saunas and outdoor hot tubs.

The surrounding area also offers opportunities to explore Lapland beyond the accommodation itself. Hiking trails are nearby, while organised activities include husky and reindeer safaris, snowmobiling and Northern Lights tours. The combination of outdoor activities and private facilities is likely to appeal to visitors who want to spend time in the wilderness without giving up the comforts of a well-equipped retreat.

Aava Glass Igloos

Another new option near Rovaniemi is Aava Glass Igloos, a family-owned property on Ollerovaara Hill, approximately 10 kilometres from the city. Its opening is scheduled for 13 November 2026. The retreat will feature 12 glass igloo suites accommodating up to four guests, alongside a one-bedroom suite. Each unit will have a heated panoramic glass roof and a private Finnish sauna.

Aava also plans to provide real-time aurora alerts, helping guests respond when the Northern Lights become visible. Planned activities include husky and reindeer safaris, snowmobiling, ice karting and snowshoeing. Its location outside the city offers a different setting from central Rovaniemi while keeping the area’s attractions within reach.

Arcora Boutique Hotel & Villas

Farther west, Arcora Boutique Hotel & Villas is scheduled to open in Muonio on 14 December 2026, near Pallas-Yllastunturi National Park. The property will combine luxury suites, sky villas and deluxe villas with two restaurants, an artisan bakery and a champagne bar. Its facilities are intended to make the resort a destination in its own right, rather than simply a place to sleep between excursions.

Wellness will form a substantial part of the Arcora experience. Planned facilities include three saunas, a cold plunge, an outdoor hot tub, a rooftop infinity pool and a gym. Guests will also be able to arrange Northern Lights tours, husky and reindeer safaris, snowmobiling and snowshoeing. The location near the national park places the property within reach of the region’s natural landscapes and outdoor activities.

In Raattama, Kelo is expanding its accommodation offering with the introduction of Sky Villas in December 2026. The boutique resort first opened in November 2025, and the new villas will accommodate up to four guests. Designed for couples, families and small groups, they will feature floor-to-ceiling windows with panoramic views of the surrounding fells.

Guests will also have access to saunas and Restaurant Jakala, which serves dishes inspired by traditional Lapland cuisine. The addition of the Sky Villas gives travellers another option in an area where the surrounding landscape is a central part of the appeal.

North Resort is preparing to welcome its first guests on 1 December 2026 on the shores of Lake Miekojarvi. The all-inclusive retreat will offer 14 villas and two spacious suites, with panoramic windows overlooking the wilderness. Its suites will include private saunas, fireplaces and jacuzzis, while full-board meals will be included in the stay.

The resort will also provide access to spa and sauna facilities, with an ice-hole dip among the experiences available to guests. Its Safari House will organise Northern Lights tours, snowshoeing, husky safaris and snowmobile safaris. The combination of included meals, accommodation and organised excursions is designed for visitors who prefer to arrange much of their winter holiday through a single property.

At the more exclusive end of the market, Octola III is due to open on 1 December 2026 as the latest addition to the Octola Private Wilderness portfolio. Located at an elevation of approximately 500 metres on the site of a former radar station, the property sits within a protected Sámi wilderness area in Finnish Lapland.

The retreat will accommodate a maximum of six guests, making it a much smaller operation than the region’s larger hotels and resorts. Access is restricted to an invitation-only waiting list, rather than ordinary online bookings. Guests will be able to reserve one suite, two suites or the entire property, depending on their arrangements.

Despite its remote setting, Octola III is approximately a 20-minute private transfer from Enontekio Arctic Airport. Its limited capacity and controlled access place it firmly in the high-end private accommodation market, aimed at travellers seeking a secluded Arctic stay.

Together, these developments show the range of accommodation being introduced across Finnish Lapland for winter 2026-2027. Visitors will be able to choose between glass-roofed igloos for watching the night sky, villas overlooking the fells, resorts with extensive wellness facilities and private retreats designed for small groups. Availability, opening schedules and the facilities offered should be confirmed directly with each property before travel, particularly for new developments preparing for their first winter season.
