A man extradited from Turkey to the United Kingdom has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the fatal shooting of Nigerian father-of-three Abayomi “Junior” Ajose and 21-year-old Cheriff Tall in Manchester in June 2020.

Greater Manchester Police said the 36-year-old suspect was detained in Turkey and brought to England on Saturday. Officers met him at Stansted Airport, and he remains in police custody as detectives continue investigating the killings.

Ajose, 36, and Tall were shot dead in the early hours of June 21, 2020, during a large gathering in Moss Side, Manchester. The event, described as a spontaneous party, attracted around 400 people to a car park near a block of flats. It took place hours after a Black Lives Matter protest.

More than six years after the shootings, detectives are continuing to establish what happened that night and identify everyone responsible. Police believe some of the people who attended the gathering may hold important information that could help move the investigation forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Higginson said the arrest reflected the force’s continued efforts to secure justice for the two victims and their families.

He said investigators had spent the years since the killings carrying out multiple search warrants, analysing evidence, examining seized electronic devices and pursuing leads to identify those involved.

Although police described the latest arrest as a significant development, Higginson stressed that the investigation remains ongoing. Detectives are still appealing for information about the circumstances surrounding the shootings and the identities of any outstanding suspects.

Police have urged people who attended the gathering but have not yet spoken to investigators to come forward. Officers believe even a small detail could help clarify the events leading to the deaths of Ajose and Tall.

A £50,000 reward remains available for information that leads to the identification and conviction of those responsible for the killings.

Greater Manchester Police said all information received would be investigated thoroughly. The force continues to seek witnesses and anyone with relevant knowledge as detectives work to establish the full circumstances of the double murder.
