Malia Nummerdor, the Florida mother accused of having sexual contact with a family dog, has denied the allegation and claimed she was framed by her estranged husband, according to friends supporting her as she faces criminal charges.
Nummerdor, 38, was arrested on September 15 after her estranged husband, Erik Nummerdor, reported to police that he had discovered footage he believed showed her engaging in sexual conduct with the family dog, Ranger. The allegations are detailed in an arrest report from the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the report, Erik had installed two security cameras inside the home while trying to determine who had been taking money from a coin jar. He told investigators that everyone in the household knew about the cameras.
While later reviewing footage recorded by a camera positioned in a bedroom, Erik said he saw Nummerdor in what he believed was a sexual encounter involving the dog. He provided the footage to investigators, along with access to the laptop where it was stored.
Police said the recording gave them evidence beyond Erik’s account of what he had seen. The arrest report describes the footage as an independent source of corroboration for his allegations.
Nummerdor was questioned by investigators on September 15. According to police, she appeared impaired during the interview and acknowledged that she had been under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
She denied engaging in sexual conduct with the dog and told investigators that she had been lying down and petting her elderly dog near its bed. Police said they questioned her further about the circumstances shown in the recording but described her explanations as inconsistent.
Investigators also noted that Nummerdor pointed out the presence of a second dog in the room during the interview.
She was subsequently arrested and booked into Charlotte County Jail on a charge of sexual contact with an animal. She has since been released.
The case has also prompted a public show of support from Nummerdor’s friends, who launched an online fundraiser on September 21 to help her and her two sons.
The fundraiser says Nummerdor maintains that the allegations made against her are untrue and describes the dispute with her estranged husband as a painful situation that has disrupted the family’s life.
According to the fundraising appeal, Nummerdor and her children have been displaced from their home and she is facing substantial legal expenses as she prepares to address the criminal case.
Her friends also say Nummerdor has no surviving parents and has therefore been relying heavily on her close circle for support.
The fundraiser stresses that its purpose is not to determine whether the allegations are true or false, but to help Nummerdor obtain legal representation and provide stability for her children while the case moves through the legal system.
The appeal also asks for privacy for Nummerdor’s two sons, saying they should be shielded from the dispute between the adults involved.
The fundraising effort had attracted limited financial support in its first day, with two donations totaling less than $20, according to the information provided in the appeal.
Nummerdor’s Facebook profile includes photographs of her with Erik and her two sons over several years. The couple married in 2023.
For now, the allegations against Nummerdor remain the subject of a criminal case. Police have presented the footage and Erik’s account as evidence supporting the charge, while Nummerdor has denied the alleged conduct and maintains that she was set up by her estranged husband. Any final determination of what happened will depend on the legal process and evidence presented in court.
