In a statement published on Instagram, Nightwish said the decision followed careful consideration and reflected the future ambitions of both parties.

“After careful consideration, we have, in mutual agreement, decided to part ways. This decision is necessary and important to us and our future ambitions. Thus, we will now pursue those goals in our own separate ways,” the band said.

Jansen, a Dutch singer, first joined Nightwish in 2012 as a touring vocalist before becoming the band’s permanent lead singer in 2013. Her departure marks the end of a period spanning more than a decade with the group, which has established itself as one of Finland’s most internationally successful musical acts.

Nightwish is known for its symphonic metal sound, which combines heavy metal with orchestral elements. The band has built an international following through its distinctive musical style and has played a significant role in bringing Finnish metal music to audiences around the world.

Jansen became the band’s third lead singer, following Finnish vocalist Tarja Turunen, who was part of Nightwish’s original lineup, and Swedish singer Anette Olzon, who succeeded Turunen.

Her arrival in 2012 came during a period of change for the band. She initially performed with Nightwish on tour before the group confirmed her as its permanent vocalist the following year.

The band’s announcement did not provide further details about its next steps or identify who might take over vocal duties following Jansen’s departure. The statement instead focused on the mutual nature of the decision and the separate ambitions both parties intend to pursue.

Jansen’s exit closes an important chapter in Nightwish’s history as the band moves forward without the singer who has led its vocals for more than a decade.
