Finland’s Digital and Population Data Services Agency (DVV) is seeking information about nearly 2,000 Finnish citizens aged 100 or older who are registered as living abroad but whose deaths have not been officially recorded.

The agency has published a public list of the individuals as part of an effort to establish whether they are still alive. The list, available through the DVV’s public notices page, contains their full names, dates of birth and last known places of residence.

According to the agency, the individuals remain in Finland’s population information system as residents abroad, but authorities have not received official information confirming what happened to them in later life. Their current status therefore remains unverified in the registry.

The DVV is asking relatives and other family members who have information about anyone named on the list to contact the agency. Information from families could help authorities update the population register and establish whether the individuals are still alive or have died.

If no information is received about a person before the deadline, the agency says that individual will be formally declared deceased.

The deadline for submitting information is 22 January 2027 at 4:15 p.m. People who believe they can provide relevant details should consult the DVV’s official public notices for further information.

The announcement highlights the challenges authorities can face in maintaining accurate population records when Finnish citizens live abroad for many years and information about deaths does not reach the Finnish registry.
