Emirates Launches Daily Helsinki Flights as Airline Restores 93% of Pre-Disruption Capacity

Emirates has launched daily flights to Helsinki as the Dubai-based airline says its operations have recovered to around 93% of pre-disruption capacity, with winter bookings showing stronger demand across several international markets.

The airline began flying to the Finnish capital on 2 October, creating a year-round connection between Dubai and Helsinki. The route adds Finland to Emirates’ Nordic network, which already includes Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm.

The launch comes as Emirates reports strong summer demand and prepares for the winter travel season. The airline carried more than 8.6 million passengers during July and August, with the company saying demand during the summer exceeded its expectations. It also reported that bookings for the winter season, which begins in late October, are developing positively, although travellers are continuing to make some decisions closer to departure.

Demand from several markets is currently ahead of the same period last year, including South Africa, Brazil, India, Portugal and Saudi Arabia. Emirates is responding by increasing capacity on selected routes and expanding the frequency of flights in parts of its network.

The airline plans to introduce second daily services to Accra, Tokyo Narita, Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. It is also scheduled to introduce its Airbus A350 on services to Larnaca, Malta, Nairobi and Hamburg from late October, followed by Mauritius in November.

The A350 will also enter Emirates’ scheduled US network on 1 November, when it replaces the Boeing 777 on the airline’s existing daily service between Dubai and Orlando.

For Finland, the most immediate change is the new Helsinki service. Emirates operates the route with an Airbus A350, with daily flight EK167 leaving Dubai at 8:15 am local time and arriving in Helsinki at 2:30 pm. The return flight, EK168, departs Helsinki at 4:20 pm and reaches Dubai at 12:20 am the following day.

The schedule gives Helsinki a direct connection with Dubai throughout the year, including the coming winter season. That is particularly relevant after Finnair announced that it would suspend its Dubai flights from 25 October 2026 until 27 March 2027 because of the unstable situation in the Middle East.

Emirates had announced its Helsinki route in January, several months before Finnair confirmed the winter suspension in August. The two developments mean Emirates will provide a direct Dubai-Helsinki option during a period when travellers would otherwise have fewer choices between the Finnish capital and the United Arab Emirates.

The route also strengthens Helsinki’s position as a gateway for travellers heading into Finland. Passengers arriving from Dubai can use the capital as a starting point for journeys elsewhere in the country, including trips towards Lapland during the winter season.

Emirates Deputy President and Chief Commercial Officer Adnan Kazim said Helsinki would connect Finland with Dubai and Emirates’ wider international network. He also described Helsinki as a gateway to Finland for travellers interested in its culture, nature, business and trade opportunities.

The timing of the route is significant beyond the airline’s wider capacity recovery. Winter travel is becoming increasingly important in the UAE market, with growing interest in skiing and other cold-weather experiences.

Nabil Sultan Al Murr, CEO of dnata Group, which is part of the Emirates Group, said in September that demand for ski holidays had grown significantly among travellers from the UAE. He noted that skiing had not been a major travel trend in the market several years ago but had since become much more popular.

dnata has responded by introducing a winter programme covering around 10 ski destinations. Its winter offering is also expanding beyond traditional skiing, with experiences such as Northern Lights trips becoming part of the wider range of options being presented to travellers.

For Finland, that shift could be particularly relevant. Lapland combines snow-based activities with the possibility of seeing the Northern Lights, making the region a natural fit for travellers looking for winter experiences rather than a conventional city break.

The Helsinki route therefore arrives at a time when Emirates is rebuilding capacity across its network while travellers from the Gulf and other markets show renewed interest in winter destinations. For passengers travelling between Finland, Dubai and destinations beyond the United Arab Emirates, the new daily service adds another year-round connection at a time when international travel patterns are continuing to adjust.
