Revolut suffered a worldwide service outage on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, leaving customers in multiple countries unable to access their accounts, check balances or make payments with their bank cards. The disruption appeared to be linked to a power outage at a Google Cloud data centre near London, which also affected other banking services in the United Kingdom.

Revolut Suffers Worldwide Outage as Customers Report Declined Cards and Login Problems

Reports of problems emerged on Tuesday morning as customers took to social media to describe difficulties accessing the Revolut app. Some said their card payments were declined, while others encountered error messages when attempting to log in or check their accounts.

Revolut confirmed that several of its services had been disrupted and said its technical teams were working to restore normal operations. The company also sought to reassure customers that their money and personal data remained safe.

“We are currently experiencing a service disruption affecting multiple services. We can confirm that all our customers’ money and data are safe,” Revolut said in a statement. The company added that it had been working to resolve the problem since it was identified that morning and apologised to customers affected by the disruption.

The outage appeared to coincide with a wider incident involving Google Cloud infrastructure. Google reported that its cloud services had experienced disruption “due to a power event” at a data centre near London. Several other UK banks also reported problems, suggesting that the incident extended beyond Revolut’s own systems.

Google later said the issue had been mitigated for most customers, although a very small number continued to experience difficulties. The update indicated that recovery was under way, but it did not establish that every affected service had returned to normal.

Customers reported problems from several countries, including the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Spain and Japan. The full geographical extent of the disruption remained unclear, as did the precise number of Revolut customers affected. Although the company serves millions of people worldwide, there was no confirmation that every account or service had been impacted.

The incident highlighted the extent to which customers depend on digital banking services for everyday payments and access to their money. When an app becomes unavailable and card transactions fail, customers can face immediate difficulties paying for purchases or checking their available balances, particularly when travelling or relying on a single payment method.

Revolut has built much of its international customer base around services designed to make spending and transferring money across borders easier. Its offering includes currency exchange, international transfers and ATM withdrawals, with fees and limits varying according to the customer’s plan and the transaction. Higher-tier subscriptions also include selected travel-related benefits, such as medical insurance, airport lounge access and trip-delay coverage, subject to the terms of each plan.

The company has expanded rapidly since its launch and has become one of Europe’s largest financial technology businesses. According to the figures cited in the original report, Revolut is valued at $121.1 billion and has more than 80 million retail customers. It has also reported strong customer growth, adding roughly one million users every 17 days, a pace that would put it on course to reach 100 million customers by mid-2027 if sustained.

The outage also affected Revolut Business, which serves companies using the platform for payments and financial management. The original report states that more than 750,000 businesses use the service, although the number of business customers directly affected by Tuesday’s disruption was not confirmed.

Revolut’s largest markets include the United Kingdom, Spain and France, with reported customer numbers of 13 million, six million and five million respectively. Its growing international presence means disruptions can affect both individual consumers and businesses operating across multiple countries.

The incident also raised questions about the reliability of digital banking when essential services depend on external cloud infrastructure. While cloud providers operate systems designed to maintain service availability, power failures and other technical incidents can still interrupt services that customers rely on for payments and account access.

Revolut apologised to affected customers and said it was working to restore its services. Google reported that the underlying cloud disruption had been mitigated for most customers, but the full extent of the impact on Revolut users remained unclear.
