Edinburgh and Dublin Lead Europe's Best Halloween Party Cities for 2026, New Ranking Finds
Europe’s best Halloween party cities for 2026 include Edinburgh, Dublin, Madrid, London and Prague, according to a new global ranking by travel experts at Adventure360. The study places Edinburgh third worldwide and Dublin fourth, highlighting Europe’s mix of traditional celebrations, themed events and late-night entertainment.

The ranking comes as Halloween falls on Saturday, 31 October, in 2026, giving travellers an opportunity to plan a weekend away around the festivities. Adventure360 assessed 113 cities worldwide, examining the number of Halloween events scheduled between 30 October and 1 November, the availability of nightlife venues and late-night restaurants, and city safety. The study also considered whether destinations host a major signature celebration associated with Halloween or the Day of the Dead. Each city received a score out of 100.

Edinburgh | Scotland

Edinburgh’s position owes much to the Samhuinn Fire Festival, a dramatic annual event held on Calton Hill on 31 October. The celebration draws on ancient Celtic traditions associated with the transition from summer to winter, bringing together fire performances, drumming, acrobatics and elaborate costumes. Performers represent the struggle between the Summer King and Winter Queen, creating a theatrical spectacle that sets the Scottish capital apart from destinations relying mainly on nightclub parties and themed attractions.

Although Edinburgh has fewer nightlife venues and late-night restaurants than some larger cities, its established Halloween programme helped it secure the highest European position in the ranking. Travellers considering a visit should check the festival’s official programme and ticket arrangements before booking.

Dublin | Ireland

Dublin ranked fourth globally, supported in part by the Bram Stoker Festival, which celebrates the city’s Gothic literary heritage and the legacy of the author of “Dracula”. The 2026 festival is scheduled for 23 to 26 October, offering four days of events ahead of Halloween weekend.

The programme includes haunted walking tours, horror theatre, candlelit library visits and a parade, alongside activities aimed at families. Stokerland, a free Gothic-themed park at St Patrick’s Park, is among the attractions highlighted in the festival programme. Dublin’s relatively small number of Halloween-themed events in the ranking did not prevent it from placing ahead of several cities with larger entertainment offerings.

Spain’s capital, Madrid, offers a different approach. Rather than relying on one major citywide Halloween celebration, it combines organised horror attractions with nightlife and guided tours. MADHORROR at IFEMA Madrid is scheduled to run from 30 October to 2 November, with haunted houses, horror films, gaming and comic-book events.

Visitors can also explore Madrid’s old town on walking tours focused on ghost stories and local legends. The Malasaña neighbourhood offers another option for those looking for costume parties, bars and late-night dining. Madrid’s seventh-place ranking reflects the range of activities available rather than a single defining festival.

London | United Kingdom

London placed eighth, benefiting from its extensive nightlife and restaurant scene as well as its Halloween attractions. According to the study, the British capital has around 22 Halloween-themed events, more than 1,000 nightlife venues and approximately 2,600 late-night restaurants, the largest numbers in those categories among the top 10 cities.

Among the seasonal attractions is the Halloween trail at Kew Gardens, featuring illuminated displays, live performers, Dracula’s Lair and a Headless Horseman. Visitors interested in the city’s darker history can join Jack the Ripper walking tours, while the London Transport Museum offers a Halloween silent disco set among its historic transport exhibits.

Prague | Czech Republic

Prague rounds out Europe’s five highest-ranked Halloween destinations in the study. Its Gothic architecture, medieval streets and historic underground passages provide a natural setting for ghost tours and themed events, even without a single signature Halloween festival.

The Wonderland Halloween event is scheduled to take place at Lucerna Great Hall on 30 October, featuring elaborate costumes, live performances, DJs and theatrical decorations. Visitors can also join guided tours through Prague’s Old Town and underground passages, where stories of murder, alchemy and restless spirits form part of the experience.

Karlovy Lazne, the city’s well-known five-floor nightclub, is also scheduled to host its annual Wicked Weekend event on 30 October and Halloween night.

The ranking offers a useful starting point for travellers choosing where to spend Halloween in Europe, but the scores reflect the study’s selected criteria rather than a definitive measure of which city will provide the best individual experience. Travellers planning a trip should also check event dates, ticket availability, accommodation prices and transport arrangements, particularly when celebrations attract visitors over the same weekend.
