Mackayla “Kash” Paige, a 29-year-old reality TV personality, was fatally shot in Richmond, California, on October 11, and her half-sister, Vernika Dunbar, has been charged in connection with her death.

Dunbar, who is from Richmond, faces felony charges of involuntary manslaughter, assault with a firearm, and carrying a loaded firearm in public. According to reporting by KTVU, investigators identified her as the person who fired the shot that killed Paige during an altercation involving another woman.
Police responded to a shooting on the 200 block of 14th Street at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Sunday. Paige had reportedly been attempting to fight another woman when the incident occurred. Dunbar allegedly intervened and attempted to strike the other woman with a firearm, but the gun discharged and struck Paige.
Emergency responders took Paige to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Dunbar was taken into custody following the shooting and remains in police custody, according to authorities. Court records also show that she faces a misdemeanor charge of brandishing a firearm in public.
The incident has drawn attention to the death of Paige, who was known for her appearances on reality television and her social media presence. Her cousin, Charles Shavies, paid tribute to her in a social media post, remembering her as more than an entertainer and influencer.
Shavies described Paige as “a beautiful young woman with big dreams, a bold personality, and a determination to make her mark on the world.”
Paige appeared on reality shows including “Real West Coast Baddies,” “Room H8z” and “Young & Reckless.” Her death has cut short the life of a young woman whose ambitions and personality were remembered by her family as central to who she was.
The charges against Dunbar relate to the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting. The case now places the focus on the legal proceedings that will determine responsibility for Paige’s death.
