These 10 airlines have the best in-flight Wi-Fi, with only one European carrier

In-flight Wi-Fi is becoming an increasingly important part of the flying experience, and Skytrax’s first ranking of the world’s best airline Wi-Fi services has revealed a list dominated by carriers from the United States and the Middle East.

These 10 airlines have the best in-flight Wi-Fi, with only one European carrier

Qatar Airways took the top position in the 2026 ranking, followed by five US airlines. Delta Air Lines placed second, United Airlines third, Alaska Airlines fourth, JetBlue Airways fifth and Hawaiian Airlines sixth.

Singapore Airlines came seventh, while Virgin Atlantic was the only European airline to make the top 10.

Qatar Airways’ position reflects its early adoption of Starlink, the satellite-based internet service that has been introduced on parts of its fleet. The technology is designed to provide connectivity across a wide range of routes, allowing passengers to access the internet while flying rather than relying on slower traditional onboard systems.

Virgin Atlantic’s eighth-place finish makes it the only European carrier included in the ranking. The British airline announced in July 2025 that it would introduce Starlink across its fleet, with the rollout scheduled to cover all aircraft by 2027. Virgin Atlantic says Wi-Fi is free for members of its Flying Club loyalty programme, which is itself free to join.

EVA Air of Taiwan took ninth place, while Emirates, the flag carrier of the United Arab Emirates, completed the top 10.

The ranking was announced by Skytrax as part of its 2026 World Airline Awards. The best onboard Wi-Fi category was introduced for the first time this year, adding passenger connectivity to the range of factors assessed by the organisation.

The World Airline Awards are based on passenger satisfaction surveys and have been running since 1999. In the wider 2026 airline rankings, Singapore Airlines was named the world’s best airline, followed by Qatar Airways in second place and Cathay Pacific Airways in third.

Among European airlines, Turkish Airlines was the highest-ranked carrier in the overall airline awards, placing fifth worldwide, while Air France ranked seventh.

The Wi-Fi results, however, show a different picture of airline performance. Only one European carrier appeared in the top 10 for onboard connectivity, while six of the places were taken by US airlines.

The complete Skytrax ranking for the world’s best onboard Wi-Fi in 2026 is:
  1. Qatar Airways
  2. Delta Air Lines
  3. United Airlines
  4. Alaska Airlines
  5. JetBlue Airways
  6. Hawaiian Airlines
  7. Singapore Airlines
  8. Virgin Atlantic
  9. EVA Air
  10. Emirates

The ranking reflects the growing investment by airlines in satellite-based internet as passengers increasingly expect to remain connected throughout a flight. For travellers who consider reliable internet access part of the flight experience, the Skytrax list provides another factor to consider when choosing an airline.
