Megan Thee Stallion says her split from NBA star Klay Thompson was “very rough”, revealing that she began to lose sight of herself while trying to make the relationship work.
The rapper opened up about the breakup in a new interview with InStyle, describing a period in which she was trying to make parts of her life fit together even when they no longer belonged together. Looking back, she said the experience forced her to recognise how much of herself she had been putting aside.
“I was losing myself a little bit. I am now in the space of finding me again,” Megan said.
Her comments point to a difficult period following the end of her relationship with Thompson, but also to a stronger sense of what she expects from a future partner. Megan said trust, fidelity and respect are essential and made clear that she does not intend to compromise her identity for a relationship again.
“I cannot be disrespected. I cannot be a person who is not gonna be me. I cannot not go to work. I’m going to be Megan Thee Stallion,” she said.
For the rapper, maintaining her independence is closely tied to how she wants to approach relationships in the future. She said she wants to be treated as an equal and does not intend to minimise herself or step into the background simply because she is in a relationship.
Megan and Thompson began dating in 2025, with the pair making their relationship public in July that year. Their romance attracted considerable attention because of their high profiles in music and professional basketball.
The relationship ended in 2026, with Megan confirming the split in April. She accused Thompson of infidelity at the time. Thompson has not publicly addressed those allegations.
In her latest comments, however, Megan focused less on the details of what went wrong and more on what the experience taught her about herself. Her decision to speak about the relationship in those terms suggests that the breakup has become part of a broader process of reclaiming her independence and identity.
Rather than presenting a future relationship as something that requires her to compromise who she is, Megan appears determined to enter one on different terms. Her message is straightforward: being with someone should not mean becoming less of yourself.
