How Toke Makinwa Tithe Choice Is Changing the Way She Gives

Toke Makinwa tithe decisions are making headlines after the Nigerian media personality revealed she no longer gives her monthly tithe to the church. Speaking on her YouTube channel, Toke explained that she decided to redirect her contributions toward hospitals and widows instead of churches.

Toke Makinwa emphasized that her choice is rooted in observation of the financial comfort of many churches.

“I kind of stopped paying tithe to the church because all the churches I know are rich. And I decided that no, no, no, no, I ain’t doing this anymore. I would rather go to hospitals, widows’ homes,” she said in her video.

According to her, churches receive substantial income regularly, including building fund contributions, which are not taxed.

“All the churches I know are rich. Every Sunday, there’s a building fund envelope. You guys have so much money, and it’s not taxed. It’s a business, if I’m going to be real, because if that pastor dies today, either his wife or his child becomes the next pastor,” Toke added.

Toke clarified that she has not abandoned giving entirely. She still makes offerings and participates in church programs when necessary. Her main shift is away from a regular, fixed tithe directly to religious institutions.

Instead of sending her tithe to the church, Toke Makinwa now channels the money to causes she believes have immediate impact.

“I would rather go to hospitals, take a maternity ward, and pay all the bills there. I would rather when strangers come to meet me, I would tithe my tithe to them because they are telling me their actual needs,” she said.

Toke also questioned the practice of giving to the church while others struggle around her.

“How can I say I love God? I have the money this person is looking for to pay rent, and I’m carrying it to a church?” she asked.

Toke recalled her earlier approach to tithing. Ten years ago, she once donated an entire brand endorsement fee to the church.

“Ten years ago, I was the girl who got a brand endorsement deal, didn’t touch one naira and carried everything to church. I said I will tithe this to God so that my life will never be tight,” she reflected.

Toke Makinwa’s tithe choice has sparked debate in Nigeria, raising questions about modern giving, church finances, and direct philanthropy. Her approach highlights a growing trend of channeling charitable contributions where they can meet immediate needs.
