San Diego Pride Faces Major Sponsor Exodus Over Kehlani’s Gaza Stance

San Diego Pride has encountered major challenges after several key sponsors pulled out because of the inclusion of R&B singer Kehlani as a headliner. The withdrawals highlight ongoing tensions surrounding Kehlani’s public support for Palestine during the conflict in Gaza.

UC San Diego, UC San Diego Health, and San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria all announced they would no longer back the festival. The official reason given was concern over Kehlani’s vocal political stance. According to CBS8, various Jewish organizations also distanced themselves from the event, accusing the singer of promoting antisemitic ideas.

Kehlani’s position is not new to controversy. Earlier this year, Cornell University canceled her scheduled performance at “Slope Day” over her expressed “anti-Israel” views. In May, her Central Park concert was also canceled due to safety concerns, with New York City Mayor Eric Adams hinting at related issues. Despite these setbacks, Kehlani maintained her pro-Palestinian message at the 2025 American Music Awards. She condemned violence and said acknowledging suffering in Gaza should be “as easy as breathing.”

Following the sponsor exits, UC San Diego reaffirmed its condemnation of antisemitism and stressed its dedication to inclusivity and respect for all communities, including Jewish members. Meanwhile, San Diego Pride shared its disappointment but respected the sponsors’ decisions not to participate this year.

Kehlani responded to the backlash on her Instagram Story, showing she remains unfazed. TMZ reached out to Mayor Gloria for comment but has yet to receive a response.
