Russia’s Foreign Ministry has strongly criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s recent visit to Washington, labeling it a complete political and diplomatic failure. Moscow claims that Zelensky remains fixated on prolonging the war rather than seeking a resolution.

During his trip on Friday, February 28, Zelensky met with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House. However, tensions reportedly escalated, straining relations between Kyiv and Washington—Ukraine’s key military ally.

“The visit to Washington on February 28 is a complete political and diplomatic failure by the Kyiv regime,” Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated in an official statement published on Saturday.

Zakharova went on to criticize Zelensky’s conduct at the White House, calling it “outrageously boorish.” She accused the Ukrainian president of being driven solely by self-interest, alleging that he has crushed opposition forces, established a totalitarian rule, and sent countless citizens to war without hesitation.

“For the sake of staying in power, he has destroyed the opposition, built a totalitarian state, and ruthlessly sends millions of citizens to their deaths,” Zakharova asserted.

Zelensky had reportedly viewed his meeting with Trump as a crucial moment to persuade the U.S. to maintain its support against Russian President Vladimir Putin. However, the talks took a confrontational turn, with Zelensky openly challenging Trump’s more conciliatory stance towards Moscow.

As geopolitical tensions rise, the fallout from this visit could have lasting implications for Ukraine’s strategic alliances and its ongoing battle against Russian aggression.
