Rihanna Shooting Suspect Faces Court on Attempted Murder Charges
Rihanna shooting suspect Ivanna Ortiz appeared in a Los Angeles County courtroom for the first time on Tuesday, March 10, facing charges of attempted murder. Court documents reveal Ortiz could face life in prison if convicted.

Ortiz, 35, also faces nine counts of assault with a firearm, two counts of shooting into an inhabited dwelling, and one count of shooting at a motor vehicle. She appeared in a blue jumpsuit, her hair styled in two blonde braids, but did not enter a plea during the brief hearing. Her formal arraignment is scheduled for March 26.

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said Ortiz could face life behind bars given the seriousness of the charges. Ortiz is being held on a $1.8 million bond, down from an initial $10.225 million, and is required to stay away from Rihanna and her partner, A$AP Rocky.

Ortiz was arrested on Sunday, March 8, after she allegedly fired 10 shots from an AR-15-style rifle at Rihanna’s Beverly Hills home while the singer was inside. The attack occurred in broad daylight around 1:21 p.m. Bullets struck the front gate and an airstream trailer parked in the couple’s driveway.

At the time of the shooting, Rihanna’s mother and the couple’s three children — RZA, 3, Riot Rose, 2, and 5-month-old Rocki Irish Mayers — were inside the main house along with two staff members. Hochman confirmed that both Rihanna and Rocky were inside the trailer when bullets pierced its windshield.

Court records also indicate Ortiz fired at another nearby home in the neighborhood, where two people were inside. The arraignment marked Ortiz’s first public appearance since her arrest.

Hochman emphasized the gravity of the case, warning that Ortiz could face life imprisonment if convicted of all charges.
