Nigeria 2025 AFCON remains a major talking point across African football circles as debates rise over which nations look ready to dominate in Morocco. Among the voices weighing in is Ghanaian football icon Asamoah Gyan, who believes the Super Eagles stand among the strongest contenders for the title next year.
The three time African champions reached the final in the 2023 edition but fell short against hosts Cote dIvoire. Their performance still convinced many analysts that the squad can push further, especially with a renewed motivation to redeem their reputation after failing to qualify for the 2026 World Cup in North America.
Gyan shared his perspective during the 2025 CAF Awards held in Rabat. The legendary Ghana forward highlighted Nigeria, Cote dIvoire, and Morocco as his top three favorites heading into the next tournament.
Speaking on the red carpet, Gyan noted that despite Ghanas absence from the upcoming competition, African football still boasts strong giants ready to perform.
He stated that Nigeria showed quality in the last edition and remain a threat. He also praised Ivory Coast for their resilience and Morocco for their consistency in recent continental and global tournaments.
Gyan concluded that these three nations stand out as his main picks to compete for the trophy in December.
Nigeria will compete in Group C alongside Tunisia, Uganda, and Tanzania. The tournament kicks off on Sunday December 21 2025 and ends on Sunday January 18 2026, marking the first time AFCON will run across the Christmas and New Year festive period.
