Manchester United Sign Matheus Cunha as First Summer Statement.
Manchester United have completed the capture of Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha from Wolves in a deal understood to be worth £62.5 million.
The transfer, which remains subject to visa clearance and final registration, marks United’s first major move of the summer as the club kicks off its rebuild under new manager Ruben Amorim.
Cunha, 28, underwent his medical last week and has now signed off on the deal that brings his two and a half year spell at Molineux to an end. He scored 33 goals in 92 games for Wolves, having first joined them on loan from Atletico Madrid in January 2023. That move was made permanent later that year for a reported fee of around £35 million.
A brief statement from Old Trafford confirmed the agreement between the two clubs. The club said Cunha’s arrival was still pending visa and registration processes but highlighted his experience across Europe’s top leagues. He has played in England, Spain, Germany and Switzerland, scoring 72 goals in 270 appearances.
Cunha also has 13 caps for Brazil and is expected to be a key figure in Amorim’s plans moving forward. The squad finished 15th in the league last season, and there is pressure on the new manager to lead a full turnaround.
Sources indicate that United will pay the transfer fee in three instalments of £20.85 million across two years. Wolves had previously turned down a longer five-year staggered payment structure.
The Brazilian attacker is also tipped to inherit the iconic No 10 shirt previously worn by Marcus Rashford, who is expected to move on this summer amid interest from clubs across Europe.
Manchester United fans are already expressing excitement over the deal, hopeful that Cunha can inject much-needed firepower and energy into a side that lacked identity last season.
As the club looks ahead to preseason under Amorim, all eyes will be on Cunha’s first moments in red.
