Kouvola police search is underway at a private home in the Voikkaa district, marking an unusually long and detailed operation for a residential area. The search, which has lasted over a week, is part of an ongoing criminal investigation, according to the Southeast Finland Police Department.

Authorities are reportedly looking for firearms and explosives on the property, according to Ilta-Sanomat. The house is located in a neighborhood of around 2,500 residents, and the scene has seen a large presence of officials in white protective suits. Eyewitnesses described these personnel entering and exiting the home while transporting materials into two containers on the property.
Local residents reported unusual activity, including shouted warnings followed by a loud explosion. One witness told Ilta-Sanomat, “I heard someone shout protect your hearing, and shortly after that, there was a blast.”
Items have been removed from the home over several days. The containers on site include one that looks like a sealed shipping unit and another similar to a skip, both reportedly being filled with materials from the property.
The police have emphasized that the search does not pose a threat to the public. Residents are asked to avoid the area to maintain safety and allow authorities to work efficiently.
There is no public information about the property owner or whether any arrests have been made. Police estimate the operation will continue for at least two to three more days.
The Defence Forces have not commented on their role in the operation, which is considered unusual in scale and duration for a residential investigation in Finland. Authorities say they will release further information once the search concludes.
