Kendrick Lamar Shut Out at AMAs, Eminem and Billie Eilish Steal the Show

Billie Eilish and Eminem Topple Kendrick Lamar at American Music Awards.

Kendrick Lamar’s long run of wins finally met a halt at the American Music Awards. Although he did snag the award for Favorite Hip Hop Song with “Not Like Us,” the rest of the night did not go his way.

He was up for five other awards, including Artist of the Year, but Billie Eilish edged him out in those categories. She also took home Album of the Year and Song of the Year, besting Lamar again.

The real surprise was in the hip hop sections. Eminem took home both Favorite Hip Hop Artist and Favorite Hip Hop Album, beating Lamar.

Lamar and SZA had a shot at Collaboration of the Year but lost to Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga’s hit “Die With A Smile.” That song also won Favorite Music Video, beating Lamar’s “Not Like Us.”

Even without a big night at the AMAs, Kendrick Lamar has been setting records left and right. His recent show with SZA on their Grand National Tour in Seattle brought in $14.8 million. That made him the first rapper to ever hit over $14 million for a single concert.

That Seattle show was the biggest on the tour so far, drawing nearly 61,000 fans. This broke Kendrick’s own previous record. Before that, his Dallas show at AT&T Stadium pulled in $11.8 million in one night.

Kendrick might have missed out on the AMA trophies this time, but his impact on music and live performance continues to grow.
