Joan Laporta has been re-elected as FC Barcelona president after a decisive victory over Victor Font in Sunday’s election, securing his position for the next five years. Laporta captured 32,934 of the 48,480 votes cast by the club’s members, while Font received 14,385 votes. Of the remaining ballots, 984 were left blank and 177 were declared void.

After his victory was confirmed, Laporta addressed supporters with words that reflected both gratitude and determination. “First of all, I want to dedicate a few words of gratitude to this wonderful club we have,” he said as chants of ‘president’ echoed through Spotify Camp Nou. “It is great to see that members can still choose who represents us. This passion is a joy, it makes the club special. Thanks to Barça and all the members who voted today in a display of democracy.”
The turnout for the election represented 42.34 percent of eligible voters, with 114,504 club members qualified to participate. The voting process drew current and former club presidents, coaches, and players, with prominent figures such as Hansi Flick and members of the men’s first-team squad casting their ballots at the stadium.
Laporta signaled his intent to lead with energy and ambition. “The result itself is conclusive, and it gives us a lot of strength. So much strength that it will make us unstoppable. We will keep defending Barcelona against everything and everyone. The upcoming years will be thrilling. They will be the best of our lives.”
The election coincided with Barcelona’s 5-2 LaLiga victory over Sevilla, with coach Flick and several players, including Raphinha, Pedri, and Dani Olmo, submitting their votes after the match. Flick, speaking before casting his own vote, reflected on the significance of the day. “I will not tell you who I will vote for because it is a secret. It is a special day. I saw the election on television in my office at the stadium. Everyone is happy, it was a great day.”
This election not only confirmed Laporta’s leadership but also highlighted the club’s enduring democratic culture, where members exercise real influence over Barcelona’s future. As the club enters a new chapter, the focus will be on translating this mandate into performance both on and off the pitch.
