Maldives Named Official Host Country for ITB Berlin 2027

The announcement was finalized during ITB Berlin 2026, where Ibrahim Shiuree, CEO and Managing Director of Visit Maldives (MMPRC), and Dr. Mario Tobias, CEO of Messe Berlin, signed the hosting agreement at the Maldives’ exhibition stand in Hall 5.2. Dr. Tobias remarked, “We are delighted that, a decade after their first appearance as Host Country, the Maldives will once again take center stage at ITB Berlin. This partnership underscores the Maldives’ critical role in international tourism and highlights ITB Berlin as the premier global platform for showcasing destinations. In 2027, we will see the Maldives present its extraordinary diversity while demonstrating how tourism and sustainability can coexist.”

With over 1,000 islands, pristine white beaches, turquoise lagoons, and thriving coral reefs, the Maldives has long been recognized as one of the world’s most iconic long-haul destinations. The country offers exclusive resort experiences, authentic local island tourism, and hospitality known for its warmth and attention to detail.

As the Host Country, the Maldives will highlight the full spectrum of its tourism offerings, including luxury resorts, boutique hotels, diving and water sports activities, wellness retreats, and cultural experiences. Sustainability remains a central theme, with initiatives focused on preserving marine ecosystems and supporting local communities.

Ibrahim Shiuree emphasized, “ITB Berlin gives us the perfect stage to showcase the Maldives’ unique experiences to travelers and tourism professionals worldwide. We are eager to welcome the global tourism industry and demonstrate the diversity, quality, and hospitality that define our islands.”

The announcement follows a recent visit by the Maldivian President to Berlin, where he met with the German Federal President. This visit highlighted the strategic significance of the Maldives for Germany and the wider international community.

2027 has been designated “Visit Maldives Year,” a national tourism initiative that aims to spotlight the islands globally. Led by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, the campaign emphasizes sustainable growth, international collaboration, and tourism development as a core economic driver. Through international marketing campaigns, travel events, roadshows, and digital initiatives, “Visit Maldives Year” will promote the Maldives’ natural beauty, cultural richness, and world-class hospitality to travelers and industry partners.

During ITB Berlin 2027, the Maldives will host the official opening gala on March 15, followed by a full program of events from March 16 to 18. Attendees can expect a national exhibition stand, cultural performances, networking opportunities, and media engagements that reinforce the Maldives’ position in the international tourism market.

By taking the role of Host Country, the Maldives reassert their long-standing commitment to ITB Berlin, strengthen connections with the German and European markets, and aim to inspire new travel demand. ITB Berlin 2027 promises to place the Maldives firmly in the global spotlight, reaffirming its status as a premier long-haul destination.
