Helsinki school stabbing incidents have raised alarm after a pupil attacked another student at Maatullin peruskoulu in Tapulikaupunki on Monday morning. The event unfolded at approximately 9.15am when a disagreement between the two upper-level students escalated into violence, resulting in police intervention, hospital treatment for the injured pupil, and suspension of the school day.

Authorities confirmed that both the suspect and the victim are minors. Police apprehended the suspect without resistance after he left the school grounds. Officials emphasized that the attack was directed at a single individual and did not pose a wider threat to other students or staff.
The injured pupil received first aid on site before being transported to a hospital. Details regarding the severity of the injuries have not been released, leaving the community anxious about the student’s condition.
Heli Siljama, the school principal, explained that the incident stemmed from an ongoing dispute that began the previous week. She said both students had been temporarily barred from attending classes late last week due to escalating tensions. Police described the situation as a settlement of a conflict between two pupils and confirmed that a bladed weapon was involved.
Following the stabbing, school officials halted the day’s schedule. Pupils were kept in classrooms before being sent home as parents gathered outside. The school, which accommodates approximately 700 pupils from first to ninth grade, shares its building with a daycare centre serving about 240 children.
Police secured the premises and confirmed the safety of everyone inside. Investigators remained on site throughout the day, and access to the area was restricted. Crisis support has been made available for both pupils and staff, and school authorities announced that classes will resume on Tuesday.
The incident has drawn attention to the challenges schools face in managing student conflicts and maintaining safety. It also underscores the importance of early intervention, conflict resolution programs, and community awareness to prevent similar events in the future.
