Ex-Broncos Player Aaron Patrick Reaches Settlement with NFL Over Knee Injury Lawsuit.

Former Broncos LB Aaron Patrick Wins Settlement in Lawsuit Against NFL

A former special teams player for the Denver Broncos has settled with the NFL after filing a lawsuit over a knee injury he sustained during a 2022 game.

Aaron Patrick tore his ACL in overtime during the Broncos’ “Monday Night Football” matchup against the L.A. Chargers at SoFi Stadium. The injury happened when he stepped on a mat covering cables and cords for the league’s instant replay equipment. Patrick explained that in trying to avoid a collision with an NFL official on the sidelines, his foot got caught in the mat, leading to his knee bending in an unnatural way.

The 28-year-old filed a lawsuit against the NFL, L.A. Chargers, ESPN, and the company responsible for the mat. He argued that the injury could have been avoided, seeking damages for lost bonuses and future earnings.

This week, a conditional settlement was reached between all parties involved, though the specifics of the agreement remain private. Patrick’s attorney, William M. Berman, shared that Patrick is relieved to move on and focus on his future. The Broncos released Patrick in August 2023, and he hasn’t been picked up by another team since.
