Finnish Aviation Union Strike is once again set to disrupt air traffic at Helsinki Airport, with a new four-hour walkout scheduled for Friday 25 July. This adds pressure to an already packed list of strike days planned for this month.
Previous walkouts have already been announced for 16, 18, 21, and 23 July. The latest update was shared by the National Conciliator’s Office on social media. While it is not yet clear which companies will be directly impacted on 25 July, officials expect that several firms will be affected.
The Finnish Aviation Union (IAU), representing ground handling staff at airports across Finland, has been locked in a drawn-out dispute with the Service Sector Employers group Palta. The conflict began in January and has resulted in a string of strikes that have disrupted travel plans all year.
A recent walkout on Monday led to around 100 flight cancellations by Finnair, throwing off the travel plans of more than 7,000 passengers. The disruption has only increased pressure on both sides as tensions grow.
Talks between the union and employers have been under mandatory mediation since spring. According to the National Conciliator, negotiations remain difficult with no clear end in sight. A new round of talks is expected to resume Saturday 12 July, but hopes for a breakthrough remain slim.
As July continues, air travelers using Helsinki Airport should expect more delays or last-minute changes and are urged to check for updates before flying.
