Finnish Aviation Union Strike Talks Fail Ahead of Ground Worker Action

A labour dispute between the Finnish Aviation Union (IAU) and Service Sector Employers (Palta) remains unresolved after another round of failed negotiations. The National Conciliator’s office confirmed the breakdown on Tuesday. This ongoing conflict has pushed airport ground workers toward a strike set to begin Wednesday.

Finnair responded by cancelling around 100 flights. The strike will impact key ground operations at Helsinki Airport including baggage handling and other vital services.

The union has issued seven strike warnings scheduled throughout July. In addition to the Wednesday walkout, further industrial actions are planned for July 4, 7, 16, 18, 21, and 23.

Earlier strikes in the year caused hundreds of flight cancellations and disrupted travel plans for tens of thousands of passengers. The unrest has had a major effect on the aviation sector in Finland.

The National Conciliator’s office shared on social media that negotiations are set to resume on Thursday. Both parties hope to find common ground before further disruptions occur.
