Finnair suspends flights to Doha following rising security threats in the Middle East, marking a serious shift in regional aviation routes. The airline has confirmed that its operations to the Qatari capital are on hold until at least 23 June, with plans to reassess after Midsummer.
This temporary halt affects Finnair’s daily route between Helsinki and Doha. Flight AY1982, originally set for 24 June, has already been canceled. Around 2,700 travelers are caught in the disruption and are being contacted individually.
According to Stiina Tuunanen, Finnair’s communications chief, the airline made this call based on an ongoing risk evaluation of the region’s airspace. Another update is expected on Monday, 23 June, depending on how the situation unfolds.
Finnair has also confirmed that it is steering clear of airspace above Iraq, Iran, Syria, and Israel. Last Friday, the airline began rerouting traffic to avoid flying over Iraq, a change that added nearly an hour to the Doha route. The increased risks and operational complications prompted the full suspension of the route.
All affected passengers are receiving direct communication from Finnair. The airline is offering alternative travel solutions or refunds under its customer policy.
