Finland TNT Production Deal Strengthens Defence Capabilities

Finland TNT production is set to expand after Defence Minister Antti Hakkänen approved a major procurement contract with Forcit Pori Oy. The long-term agreement secures TNT explosives for the Finnish Defence Forces from 2028 through 2037 with a total contract value of 189 million euros before tax.

Finland TNT Production Deal

Under the deal, Forcit Pori Oy will build a new TNT production facility in the Satakunta region. The plant will be located in the city of Pori and is expected to employ around 70 people once fully operational. The construction phase will create additional jobs while also bringing indirect work opportunities in logistics and chemical supply chains.

The decision to build a domestic TNT plant reflects Finland’s strategy to secure critical military production within its own borders. Defence Minister Hakkänen explained that the Ministry of Defence began this project to guarantee Finland’s ability to produce explosives for heavy ammunition without relying on foreign supply chains. Once operational, the facility will strengthen national defence readiness and also contribute to wider European security.

Beyond the direct employment impact, the project supports local industry and provides long-term economic benefits for the Satakunta region. The stable demand secured by the procurement contract makes the factory commercially viable and ensures that Finland has a sustainable source of TNT production.

According to the Ministry of Defence, the factory will become a key national asset for military logistics. It will also enhance preparedness in the face of changing security challenges in Europe.
