Facilitating sale of sexual services is at the center of a police investigation in northern Sweden after a man in his 60s was accused of helping more than 100 men purchase sexual services from his wife. The case began when the woman reported her husband to police in late October 2025. He has remained in custody since his arrest while authorities examine whether he financially benefited from her activities.
Under Swedish law, buying sexual services is illegal, while selling sexual services is not considered a criminal offense. The investigation focuses on whether the man promoted or profited from his wife’s activities, which constitutes a procuring offense.
Prosecutor Ida Annerstedt stated that the man is suspected of procuring, an offense involving the promotion or profit from another person’s prostitution. Investigators believe the alleged activity took place between January 2022 and the man’s arrest in October 2025.
Authorities have identified approximately 120 individuals suspected of purchasing sexual services. Not all of these individuals are expected to face charges as part of the main case. Separate inquiries into the alleged buyers may follow once the primary proceedings conclude.
Annerstedt noted that investigators are also examining other potential offenses connected to the case but did not provide further details due to the ongoing investigation. She also did not clarify whether the woman was coerced or participated voluntarily.
The suspect has denied all allegations. According to reports from Swedish public broadcaster SVT, he has a criminal record that includes assault and unlawful coercion.
Sweden’s approach to prostitution criminalizes the purchase of sexual services but not the sale. Cases of procuring are treated seriously, with authorities focusing on those who financially benefit from another person’s sexual activity.
