Donald Trump, the incoming U.S. President, has firmly committed to deporting all individuals residing in the country illegally during his four-year term.
Speaking during an interview on NBC’s Meet the Press, aired on Sunday, Trump outlined his comprehensive strategy to address illegal immigration. He also revealed plans to terminate birthright citizenship, which he intends to tackle immediately upon assuming office.
When questioned about his approach to undocumented immigrants, Trump emphasized his determination. “It has to be done,” he stated unequivocally. Later in the conversation, he doubled down, saying, “We’re starting with those who have committed crimes, but the job must get done.” While he admitted the logistical hurdles this entails, his commitment remained steadfast.
Trump also discussed ending birthright citizenship, labeling the current policy “absurd.” He suggested it could be addressed through executive action on his first day in office but noted that pursuing a constitutional amendment might also be on the table. “It’s something we must put a stop to,” Trump declared.
Additionally, Trump expressed openness to working with Democrats on crafting a legislative solution for “Dreamers”—individuals who were brought to the U.S. as children without legal status. He acknowledged the sensitive nature of their situation and hinted at possible compromises.
