DayOne Lahti Data Centre Project Launches in Finland

DayOne Lahti data centre is set to reshape the digital infrastructure of Lahti, Finland, with a €1.2 billion investment in a hyperscale campus. Singapore-based DayOne will develop the facility on a 98,901 square metre site in the Kiveriö district, a former industrial area.

The campus will ultimately provide 128MW of IT load. Construction begins with the first 50MW building, scheduled to be operational in 2027, with site demolition starting in the third quarter of 2025.

Negotiations with potential tenants are ongoing, but no contracts have yet been finalized.

Sustainability is a core focus for the DayOne Lahti data centre. The facility will take advantage of Finland’s cool climate for free cooling and use air-cooled chillers to avoid freshwater consumption. Plans are also underway to integrate waste heat into Lahti’s district heating system. Agreements with Lahti Energy and the city aim to enhance grid resilience and support carbon neutrality goals.

Jamie Khoo, CEO of DayOne Data Centers, said, “Finland is an ideal strategic choice for our European growth. Lahti’s commitment to sustainability and carbon neutrality aligns with our own goals. Reliable energy, renewable leadership, and a skilled workforce make Finland a strong location for sustainable infrastructure.”

The project is expected to employ 1,000 workers during peak construction and create 100 permanent skilled positions once operational. DayOne has also pledged €2.5 million to LUT Universities to support ICT education and skills development in the region.

Niko Kyynäräinen, mayor of Lahti, said, “The data centre will strengthen the region’s digital economy. Lahti’s location, clean energy, and stable conditions provide a strong model for sustainable operations.”

In addition to Lahti, DayOne confirmed a joint investment in Hyperco’s Kouvola data centre, which will serve major clients including ByteDance.

Formed earlier this year after spinning out from Chinese operator GDS International, DayOne now operates over 500MW of capacity across Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Japan. New sites are under development in Thailand and Singapore, emphasizing the company’s continued European and Asian expansion.
