According to the white paper, the Chinese government accuses the U.S. of deflecting attention from its own mishandling of the pandemic. Instead of addressing its failures, China suggests, the U.S. has sought to politicize the origins of the virus. The Chinese report demands a thorough investigation into the virus’s origins on U.S. territory, urging the country to address international concerns and provide a responsible explanation.
The paper claims that there is substantial evidence indicating that COVID-19 may have emerged in the U.S. earlier than the official timeline suggests, potentially even before the virus’s outbreak in China. Despite this, many virologists and epidemiologists maintain that the virus likely passed from animals to humans before spreading globally.
China’s report emphasizes that the U.S. should stop ignoring the international community’s questions. It accuses the American government of downplaying the virus’s severity during the early stages of the outbreak, pointing to public statements from January 2020 that compared COVID-19 to the flu and suggested it would eventually disappear. The white paper contends that this delay in action allowed the virus to spread unchecked, costing valuable time in the global fight against the pandemic.
The white paper also touches on respiratory disease outbreaks in the U.S. between May and October 2019, suggesting that these were early instances of COVID-19. While no conclusive lab results have supported this theory, the report references a study by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which found that antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 were present in blood samples collected in late 2019. This, according to China, suggests the virus had already been circulating in the U.S. before the first official case was identified.
The timing of the white paper’s release coincides with ongoing discussions in the U.S. regarding the origins of the virus, including the launch of a new government website focused on the pandemic. The site criticizes former President Joe Biden and Dr. Anthony Fauci, reinforcing the narrative that the virus leaked from WIV.
