Alexander Stubb’s Archipelago Escape Mirrors Strong Public Support on Foreign Policy.
Finnish President Alexander Stubb spent his weekend away at his summer cottage in the Finnish Archipelago on the west coast.
His Instagram post showed the peaceful island setting. “Nothing like a calm evening and a sauna in the Finnish archipelago,” he wrote. People from Finland and beyond left comments admiring the beauty and the peaceful vibe of the place, as reported by Ilta-Sanomat.
Judging by a recent poll commissioned by Maaseudun Tulevaisuus, a newspaper focusing on rural issues, many Finns think Stubb deserves this break. The survey found that 82 percent of those asked felt either very satisfied or somewhat satisfied with how the president has managed foreign policy.
Only 11 percent were unhappy with his role in foreign matters, while 7 percent had no clear opinion either way.
This outcome did not come as a surprise to Tuomas Forsberg, a Professor of International Politics at the University of Tampere.

He explained that Finns usually show strong support for the president, especially when it comes to foreign policy. Forsberg also noted that Stubb’s weakest backing comes from left-wing voters and younger people. He suggested this could be because of dissatisfaction related to Israel’s war in Gaza.
The poll was carried out earlier this month, before Stubb publicly took a firmer position on Israel last week.
