Afro Nation Portugal wrapped up its fifth year in a way that felt more like a movement than a music event. Between July 9 and 11, over 40,000 people from more than 180 countries took over Praia da Rocha for three unforgettable days. And now, as the dust settles, the next chapter is already in motion.
Organizers announced that Afro Nation Portugal 2026 will take place from Friday July 3 to Sunday July 5. A limited pre-sale goes live Friday at 10am BST. Tickets will move fast. You can sign up at afronation.com for early access.
Since its first edition in 2019, Afro Nation has been more than just a festival. It is a cultural gathering. A global family reunion. It is where the African diaspora and music lovers unite, where artists and fans create a shared energy that cannot be manufactured. This year, it felt like a turning point.

Day one of the 2025 edition started with fireworks. Davido took the stage and set it ablaze while celebrating his new album 5IVE. J Hus made a surprise appearance that stunned the crowd. Shallipopi brought an explosive energy that left fans buzzing. Tiakola, Gabzy, Ronisia and Joshua Baraka carried the vibe from dusk till midnight.

Thursday belonged to the women. Tems, in her first headline show at Afro Nation, brought a wave of emotion with every note. Her voice cut through the night like the wind. Mary J. Blige followed, owning the stage with a set full of R&B soul and hard-earned wisdom. Fans couldn’t believe the lineup. Amaarae, Franglish, Naza, Odeal and June Freedom brought diversity, fire and surprise.

Friday was something else entirely. The beach transformed into Burna Nation. Burna Boy released No Sign of Weakness that day and turned his headliner slot into a live celebration.

An album release party became a wild beach concert. No script. Just raw joy. And it didn’t stop there. Dexta Daps, Frenna, Booba, Dystinct, and Innoss’B kept the energy flowing. Every stage felt full. Every artist gave it everything.

This year’s Piano People stage wasn’t just another area. It was a full-blown cultural takeover. South African DJs Scorpion Kings, Uncle Waffles, DBN Gogo, Felo Le Tee, and KMAT pulled crowds that felt electric. But it was Vigro Deep who turned it into something spiritual. He stepped from behind the decks and played piano live. The crowd stood still, then danced like nothing else mattered.

The soundscape expanded. Afro House, Afro Tech and 3 Step sounds joined the Amapiano rhythm. Mörda brought a hypnotic set that wrapped the beach in a trance. You could feel the roots of South African music pulse through the sand.
As Friday night wrapped up, artists poured back onto the stage in a final show of unity. They danced together beneath the stars, sharing something bigger than music.
Afro Nation always finds a way to build community off stage. This year, it happened through taste and culture. Food stalls brought jollof, akara balls, grilled prawns and more. Every plate told a story. Every bite carried memory and pride.

Flag Friday stood out. A wave of colors across the beach. Flags from every corner of the world. People dancing, draped in their heritage. A visual reminder of what Afro Nation is: not one country, but many voices moving together.
The journey doesn’t end in Portugal. Afro Nation will land in Punta Cana from November 7 to 9. Caribbean sunshine, ocean air and performances from Sexyy Red, TXC and more to be announced. Tickets and details at puntacana.afronation.com.
