R. Kelly Claims He’s Written 25 Albums in Prison and Plans His Comeback

R. Kelly might be serving a 30-year sentence, but he’s not giving up on his music anytime soon. In an exclusive interview on the “Inmate Tea with A&P” podcast, the controversial singer took a moment to showcase his vocal skills, offering up snippets from two of his most iconic tracks — 1998’s “When a Woman’s Fed Up” and 2003’s “Step in the Name of Love.”

Even though he’s locked up for federal racketeering and sex trafficking, Kelly’s passion for music is alive and well. “Singing is a beautiful disease that’s uncurable… I’m always singing,” he remarked, reflecting his deep connection to his craft. The singer also claimed to have penned 25 albums while behind bars, proving that his creativity hasn’t been stifled by his circumstances.

Currently serving time at a federal facility in North Carolina, Kelly remains optimistic about his future, stating he’s “working on getting out” and is practicing patience as part of his strategy. Alongside his federal conviction, Kelly is also serving a 20-year sentence for sex crimes in Chicago, but a judge ruled that only an additional year would be tacked onto his 30-year sentence, with the other 19 years being served concurrently.

Back in February, an appeals court upheld his racketeering convictions and sentence, keeping Kelly locked up for the foreseeable future.

Despite the setbacks, Kelly’s attorney, Jennifer Bonjean, is still holding onto hope. She told TMZ after visiting him recently, “He was in good spirits. He is not a broken man and no one should count him out. Our appeals process is far from over, and we will keep fighting for justice and his freedom.”
