Free influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations will begin in Helsinki at the end of September. The city health department confirmed the schedule and eligibility rules on Monday, stressing the importance of protecting vulnerable groups before the winter season.

The vaccination campaign is by appointment only and follows the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) national guidelines. This year fewer people qualify for a COVID-19 booster, while the influenza vaccine rules remain unchanged.
Last year Helsinki health services administered over 130,000 influenza vaccines and more than 95,000 COVID-19 vaccines. Jarja Ijas, chief physician of the city health centres, encouraged residents to take part.
“We recommend that everyone who is eligible makes sure to get vaccinated within the planned period. These vaccines protect against severe illness caused by both flu and COVID-19,” Ijas said in the press release.
Vaccination timetable based on age
- People aged 75 and above: 30 September to 10 October
- People aged 65 to 74: 13 to 24 October

“Flu vaccines are given during routine checkups or by a separate appointment. COVID-19 vaccines are available only at the Ruoholahti clinic for those eligible,” Lindberg said.
