Television blackout in Finland will take place on Tuesday as key transmission stations undergo scheduled maintenance. Viewers in several regions should prepare for service interruptions that will affect both TV and radio broadcasts.

Operator Digita has confirmed that work at the Tampere radio and television station will require a shutdown of antenna network TV signals for around four hours between 8:00 and 16:00. For safety reasons, radio broadcasts will also be transmitted at reduced power, which will likely cause reception problems at the outer edge of coverage zones.
The blackout will affect viewers across Pirkanmaa and nearby areas, including Virrat, Mantta, Vammala, Kihnio, Ikaalinen, Parkano, Nokia, Kuhmoinen, Jamsa, Orivesi, Juupajoki and Ruovesi. Digita has published a map on its website to show all the areas that will face disruptions.
The interruption will concern several channel groups:
- Multiplex B: Yle TV1 HD, Yle TV2 HD, MTV3 HD, Nelonen HD, Yle Teema & Fem HD
- Multiplex C: TV5 HD, Kutonen HD, TLC HD, STAR Channel HD, Hero HD, Frii HD, National Geographic HD
- Multiplex E: MTV Sub HD, Liv HD, Jim HD, MTV Ava HD, Alfa HD, Iskuri.net HD, One Way TV HD, VeikkausTV-19
Radio stations also impacted by the power reduction include Yle Radio Suomi Tampere, Yle Radio 1, YleX, Yle Radio Vega, Radio Nova and POP FM.
Television blackout in Finland extends to North Karelia
In addition to Tampere, Digita is also conducting maintenance in North Karelia at the Kiihtelysvaara transmission site. Television signals in this area will be cut for around two hours, while radio services will experience short interruptions when work begins and ends. Viewers in the region will lose access to Yle TV1 HD, Yle TV2 HD, MTV3 HD, Nelonen HD and Yle Teema & Fem HD during the maintenance.
Further work is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, which means that additional service interruptions can be expected later in the week. Digita advises residents to plan for short periods without access to television and radio services while the technical upgrades are carried out.
