Singer Angie Stone, renowned for her iconic hit “Wish I Didn’t Miss You,” has tragically passed away at the age of 63.

A representative confirmed that Stone lost her life in a car accident in Montgomery, Alabama, while on her way home from a performance. She was the sole person who died in the crash. Her daughter, Diamond Stone, shared a heartbreaking message online: “My mommy is gone.”

Angie Stone made her mark in the music world as a founding member of the pioneering all-female hip-hop group The Sequence in the late 1970s at just 16 years old. The trio achieved success with their song “Funk You Up,” which went on to be sampled by Dr. Dre in his track “Keep Their Heads Ringin’” and Bruno Mars in “Uptown Funk.”

After the group parted ways in the mid-80s, Stone’s career flourished as she lent her vocals to the band Vertical Hold, later joined Devox, and became a key collaborator for D’Angelo, providing backing vocals and co-writing songs for his first two albums. She also worked as a backing vocalist on tour for D’Angelo before contributing to Lenny Kravitz’s 1998 album 5.

Throughout her career, Stone released ten studio albums, one compilation, and over two dozen singles. Her latest album, Love Language, dropped in 2023 and featured collaborations with Musiq Soulchild and her son, Swayvo Twain.

Stone’s remarkable talents earned her three Grammy nominations, and she also penned songs for notable artists like Erykah Badu and Raphael Saadiq.

Beyond music, Angie Stone took on acting roles in popular films like The Hot Chick and The Fighting Temptations. She also graced the stage in the role of Big Mama Morton in the musical Chicago.
