Rasmus Hojlund Transfer to Napoli Confirmed as Manchester United Agree Loan with Obligation to Buy

Rasmus Hojlund transfer to Napoli has been officially confirmed, marking the end of his two-year spell at Manchester United. The Danish striker will join the Serie A champions on a season-long loan that includes an obligation to buy, according to both clubs.

Manchester United released a statement confirming the move, noting that Hojlund will spend the 2025/26 campaign in Italy, subject to international clearance and registration. The club highlighted his 95 appearances in a red shirt since signing from Atalanta in August 2023, during which he scored 26 goals. He was also part of the squad that lifted the Emirates FA Cup at the end of the 2023/24 season, coming on as a substitute in the final against Manchester City.

Napoli issued their own announcement, underlining that the deal comes with a permanent purchase clause. They welcomed Hojlund as part of Antonio Conte’s squad, reminding fans of his career journey that began in Denmark with Brondby, Holbaek, and FC Copenhagen. He then moved to Sturm Graz in Austria, before making his mark at Atalanta in 2022 where he scored 10 goals in 34 games. His switch to Manchester United followed in 2023, but despite 26 goals in 95 matches, his Premier League form was inconsistent, managing only four league goals in the 2024/25 season.

For Napoli, this signing represents both ambition and renewal. Conte is expected to shape his team around strong attacking options, and Hojlund’s power and movement could make him a decisive figure in Serie A. For the player, the move offers a chance to restart after a difficult spell in England, and he will also be looking to maintain his international record with Denmark, where he has already scored eight goals in 26 appearances.

Manchester United supporters may feel disappointment at how the transfer turned out, given the £64 million fee spent in 2023. Still, the club will hope the obligation-to-buy clause guarantees a solid financial return, while Hojlund looks forward to a new chapter in Italy.
