Lil Wayne New Music and Tha Carter VI reception

Lil Wayne new music continues to pour out just days after the release of his latest album Tha Carter VI. The hip hop legend has kept fans excited by dropping a fresh collaboration with Future and Lil Baby called “Momma Don’t Worry.” This new track followed shortly after Lil Wayne unveiled a remix of “Banned from NO” featuring Nicki Minaj.

It is still unclear why “Momma Don’t Worry” was left off the original album or if it will appear on a future deluxe edition. Fans have responded positively to the song since it dropped, adding to the buzz around Tha Carter VI.

Just yesterday, Lil Wayne released the “Banned from NO” remix with Nicki Minaj, where she delivers pointed verses targeting the NFL and commentator Shannon Sharpe. Minaj raps, “If I send a pic of Shannon you ain’t that Sharpe / Cause you still can’t spell Prague and that’s horrible.” She also criticized the NFL for not selecting Wayne to perform at this year’s Super Bowl halftime show in New Orleans, his hometown.

Nicki Minaj spits, “NFL, fire some n-ggas and then call us.” She has been one of the most vocal critics of the NFL’s choice to pick Kendrick Lamar over Lil Wayne for the halftime show.

Tha Carter VI has received mixed reactions since its release last week, and first week sales reflect that lukewarm reception. The album is projected to sell 110,000 equivalent units in its first week, including 35,000 in pure sales.

If these projections hold, Tha Carter VI will debut at number two on the Billboard 200 chart. Country star Morgan Wallen currently holds the top spot. For comparison, Lil Wayne’s previous solo album Funeral debuted at number one with 139,000 equivalent units sold in the opening week.

This is a noticeable decline compared to Tha Carter V, which opened with 480,000 units in 2018.

One notable aspect of Tha Carter VI is its diverse list of collaborators. The album includes a special feature from U2 lead singer Bono. Wayne and Bono came together on the anthemic track “The Days,” which was teased during an NBA Finals promo.

On this song, Lil Wayne reflects on his veteran status in hip hop, rapping, “I ain’t getting younger, but I’m getting better / No time to waste that’s another man’s treasure / They say every dog has hit day.”
