Loving Itohan, the new Nigerian drama starring Nancy Isime, explores the complicated relationship between love, grief and family through the story of a woman whose life takes an unexpected turn after loss and the discovery of difficult truths.
Produced by GREOH Studios, the film initially draws viewers into what appears to be a familiar romantic story. Its opening scenes feature a traditional Edo wedding, complete with coral beads, gold jewellery and the visual richness of Nigerian wedding celebrations. However, as the story develops, the focus moves beyond romance to examine the emotional responsibilities, tensions and relationships that shape family life.

At the centre of the story is Itohan, played by Nancy Isime. Her character faces personal loss and revelations that challenge her understanding of the people closest to her. The film follows her experience of grief and the difficult process of finding a way forward while dealing with family expectations and unresolved emotions.
Rather than presenting grief as something that disappears with time, Loving Itohan examines how loss can continue to affect a household long after the immediate period of mourning has passed. It also considers the complicated nature of family relationships, where love and support can exist alongside pressure, disappointment and things left unsaid.

The film’s visual presentation is another notable feature. Its cinematography makes strong use of colour, particularly the reds and golds associated with Edo traditions. The camera moves between the energy of cultural celebrations and quieter scenes that give the characters room to express their emotions without relying heavily on dialogue. These visual choices help establish the contrast between the outward appearance of family happiness and the personal struggles taking place behind closed doors.
Loving Itohan comes from GREOH Studios, the production company associated with films such as Gangs of Lagos. While that production leaned towards crime, action and spectacle, this new project takes a more intimate approach, placing family relationships and emotional conflict at the centre of its story.

The film is directed by Orobosa Ikponmwen, a new directing talent receiving backing from the studio. GREOH Studios has previously supported emerging filmmakers, including Kayode Kasum and Loukman Ali, as part of its approach to developing new creative voices in the Nigerian film industry.
For Nancy Isime, Loving Itohan also marks an important step in her career. The actress takes on her first executive producer role while leading the cast as the film’s central character. Her involvement gives her a role in the project beyond acting, placing her among the creative figures responsible for bringing the production to the screen.

She is joined by Uzor Arukwe, Martha Ehinome Orhiere, Dorathy Bachor, Grace Dein Coker, Chioma Nwosu, Florence Sunday and newcomer Obehi Aburime. Together, the cast portrays the family relationships around which the story develops.
Although the film’s trailer may suggest a straightforward romantic drama, its story reaches into more complicated territory. Its treatment of loss, family obligations and the decisions people make when relationships are tested gives the production a broader emotional focus.
Loving Itohan opens in cinemas nationwide on 6 November 2026.
